Apple’s recently submitted patent application with the United States Trademark and Patent Office (USPTO) suggests a potential future functionality for AirPods. It seeks to make music listening more immersive and natural by taking into account the acoustics of the surroundings.
The headphones modify many factors dynamically to replicate your audio surroundings. In principle, the headset should be able to recognise where you are by using the available sensors, microphones, and digital signal processing unit.
After that, the algorithm will alter the sound pressure, simulate the acoustics of the surroundings, and modify the sound acoustics of the source audio or video file. Schematics reveal that the Spatial Sound element also plays a significant role.
Time will tell whether or not this invention results in an actual product, as is the case with most patents.
