GLOMO (Global Mobile Awards) winners this week as MWC came to an end include Apple, TCL, and Motorola. Awards are given out annually in a variety of areas, including government leadership, devices, mobile technologies, digital everything, and tech for good. We are taking a peek at this year’s winners in the “Device” category.
The Apple iPhone 14 Pro received the “Best Smartphone” honour. Other contenders for the prize include the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4, Google Pixel 7 Pro, Nothing Phone 1, and Galaxy Z Fold4.
The Best Smartphone award combines exceptional performance, innovation, and leadership as decided by evaluation of smartphones sold between January and December 2022 by top independent analysts, journalists, and influencers from around the world.
Apple triumphs once more in the category of “Disruptive Device Invention” with its Emergency SOS via Satellite. The world saw how satellites could be used to speak in an emergency without the need for specialised hardware at Apple’s iPhone 14 launch event.
Soon after, MediaTek announced that its upcoming chipsets would support satellite data connections, and T-Mobile announced its collaboration with SpaceX to replace dead zones in the US that would be possible with outdated devices. Other products up for consideration include Sony’s IMX989 Camera Sensor, Qualcomm Snapdragon, and Google’s Tensor 2 CPU.
This next award, which also relates to satellite transmission, was given to a satellite-related device. The Motorola Defy Satellite Connection by Bullit receives “Best in Show” honours. The MediaTek-powered device connects to smartphones via Bluetooth and can transmit SMS messages from any location with a clear view of the sky.
