Google is giving some members on the /r/GooglePixel subreddit free money in exchange for “dogfooding the Google Pay remittance experience,” according to the announcement. Others see their balance rise by more than $1,000, while some receive only a small sum.
“Dogfooding” refers to the practise of testing a new feature or service before making it available to the general public. This means that Google is inadvertently transferring cash to random users for “testing” Google Pay features rather than rewarding the staff who tested them.
