Hands-on: Belkin’s iPhone mount for desktop Mac displays is a secret tripod mount with MagSafe

DESCRIPTION:

You may now utilise an iPhone as the Mac’s webcam thanks to Apple’s Continuity Camera feature in macOS Mojave. Belkin and Apple collaborated to develop MagSafe mounts that make it simple to set up your iPhone for this capability. There are two distinct mount types, and each has a unique secret capability.

MOSYLE

The only Apple Unified Platform, Mosyle, has provided support for this article. Because Mosyle is the only solution that completely integrates five distinct apps on a single Apple-only platform, businesses and educational institutions can deploy, manage, and secure all of their Apple devices quickly and automatically. Mozyle products are used by over 35,000 businesses every day to automate the deployment, maintenance, and security of millions of Apple devices. The iPhone Mount with MagSafe for Mac Notebooks was initially made available by Belkin last fall. A closer look at the notebook version revealed that it included a kickstand/loop for comfortably holding your phone in one hand or supporting it for videos. Since you can now use the $29.95 device for purposes other than mounting your iPhone on your MacBook for video calls, it becomes more useful overall.

Then, in December, Belkin made its $39.95 iPhone Mount with MagSafe for Mac Desktops and Displays available. The Apple Studio Display and Apple Pro Display XDR are two examples of displays that this version is especially designed to work with and are thicker than laptop lids.

Also, in the case of the Apple Pro Display XDR, the premium display is devoid of a built-in camera.

In terms of using Continuity Camera, I’ve discovered that the notebook version is more useful in practise. The rear cameras on iPhones are superior to those on Mac notebooks, which are hardly anything to write home about. Continuity Camera is handy for anything beyond than simple video chats.

Both versions have a Desk View mode that, when mounted on an iPhone, enables the camera to concentrate on whatever you’re holding up in front of you for a presentation. Despite the fact that I haven’t had much success with this particular function, I’m glad to say that I rarely use it.

I do frequently find myself in need of an iPhone attachment that can be fastened to a tripod. I frequently use one of these accessories, whether I’m taking pictures of birds playing on my back porch or recording video of a stunning scene.

Tripod iPhone mounts have always been a bit difficult to use. I once used one that required a hex key to tighten and loosen. Recently, I’ve utilised one that can be adjusted without the usage of a separate tool. I’ve also considered how useful a MagSafe variant would be for securing and releasing the iPhone from the mount.

I experimented with Belkin’s iPhone Mount with MagSafe for Mac Desktops and Screens, unrelated to my idea. Since it accommodates different display depths, it is larger than the laptop version. It does not serve as a substitute for a MagSafe Pop-Socket as the smaller model does.

Belkin uses the more durable construction to enable it to function as a tripod-compatible iPhone mount. That’s where I personally find myself using the most. I swapped out my previous iPhone holder for Belkin’s MagSafe mount. Compared to tripod mounts that need screws to be turned in order to acquire a correct fit, setup, adjustments, and takedown are now significantly simpler.

Hence, even though I think Continuity Camera works best with laptops, I really use the desktop version the most often. The Continuity Camera feature on desktop Mac displays turns out to be enabled via this excellent small MagSafe tripod attachment.
