The Phantom V Fold, Tecno’s first foldable smartphone, was just unveiled, and it’s a large one. To get things going, here is a video of the main features.
The packaging for the Tecno Phantom V Fold is sizable. You receive a stylish Aramid Fibre case with a built-in kickstand for the back panel, which is a crucial component of any foldable phone case. Additionally, you receive a 45W charger, which is more than you would get with a modern Samsung foldable phone.
For its first foldable phone, Tecno chose a book-style design. But the unique recycled-plastic design on the rear panel, which is comparable to the one on the Phantom X2 Pro, makes it stick out among the foldables.
In contrast to the many various glass panels we’re used to, it feels grippy in the hand and has a rough texture, which is a welcome change. The absence of wireless charging on the rear panel is a drawback.
Tecno Phantom V Fold feels sturdy in the palm, carrying on the usability theme. It is solidly constructed, and when closed, it resembles an ordinary bar phone with slightly tapered sides and a cosy, thin frame.
For your fingertips to fit through when trying to pry the Phantom V Fold open, the frame itself tapers off at the very edge.
The cover display of the Tecno Phantom V Fold is a 6.42-inch 1080x2550px AMOLED, capable of variable refresh rate up to 120Hz. The panel is more usable than the Galaxy Z Fold4’s narrower cover display.
Another area where the Tecno foldable is superior is the built-in battery, which is a generous 5,000mAh unit.

The internal monitor, at 7.85 inches, is also larger than that of the Galaxy Z Fold4. AMOLED screen with a resolution of 2000x2296px and 120Hz is also present.
Simply put, it has a larger screen than the Galaxy Z Fold4‘s and has more interior space. However, the Phantom V Fold‘s scale factor is made by default to be a little bit larger, so the UI is a little bit larger than the Galaxy’s.
Compared to the Galaxy Z Fold4, the Tecno Phantom V Fold’s seam is less obvious. That’s partly because of the various hinge configurations.
The Galaxy Z Fold4 has a tiny gap that allows dust and other particles to enter when in a pocket, while the Phantom V Fold can shut flat.

The Galaxy Z Fold4 cannot compete with the Tecno Phantom V Fold in terms of design. However, this has subtleties. Samsung’s foldable hinge can remain in any configuration, but the one used by Tecno cannot.
Additionally, the Galaxy Z Fold4 weighs 263 grammes, which is a complete 36 grammes less than the 299-gram Tecno Phantom V Fold. There is also the Galaxy’s water resistance.
The Tecno Phantom V Fold is a heavy device, there is no way around that. But you do get more, quite literally, in the form of increased battery storage and dual-sided display space.
Stay tuned for upcoming updates on the Tecno Phantom V Fold!
