In keeping with its dedication to the “Make in India” initiative, the Chinese phone manufacturer Tecno today revealed that manufacturing of the Phantom V Fold has started in India. It will be produced at Tecno’s Noida factory, which can presently produce 24 million phones annually.
The company also disclosed that the Phantom V Fold will debut in India on April 11 and go on sale early on Amazon on April 12. The folding phone will cost INR77,777 ($945/€870) in India, but this price is only good for a limited number of units. The manufacturer hasn’t said how much the Phantom V Fold will cost there in the future.
The Phantom V Fold is Tecno’s first folding smartphone, powered by the Dimensity 9000+ SoC and offering up to 512GB of storage (we don’t know which version will be available in India). Its FullHD+ cover display measures 6.42″ diagonally, while the foldable screen measures 7.85″ diagonally and has a resolution of 2,296×2,000 pixels. Both are LTPO screens with a 120Hz refresh rate and a maximal brightness of 1,100 nits.
The Tecno Phantom V Fold has five cameras: three on the back (50MP main + 50MP telephoto + 13MP ultrawide), one on the inside (16MP selfie), and one on the top display. It has a 5,000 mAh battery and 45W charging capability. (32MP selfie). But the Phantom V Fold lacks an in-display biometric reader, unlike the vivo X Fold/Fold+. Instead, it chooses a side-mounted approach.
